We want to reiterate the fact that while Hell of the South is categorised as a ‘race’, don’t let it deter you from entering and enjoying the scenery. The route takes you out Cygnet, up the first 3.7km climb with a gentle average gradient of 2.9%. Don’t let the average gradient fool you, in a race setting, this climb is perfect for an early attack. Riders will enjoy a brief and quick descent before turning left onto a closed Cygnet Coast rd. In the middle of this ‘big lap’, is an 8km gravel section where your bike handling abilities will be put to the test. If you’re in a big group, you’ll want to be switched on. Once back in Cygnet, riders will begin the second ‘small loop’, taking a left hand turn up Wattle Grove rd. This 4km, 5.6% hill is sure to break up the groups and differentiate the climbers from the sprinters. A 4km (mostly) gentle ascent weaving its way out of Cygnet and looking back on its township. After a climb, comes a fun, flowy descent before then turning off onto Cygnet Coast rd where the road will be all yours from here on out! Enjoy the picturesque Cygnet Coast rd as you follow the coastline for the remaining ride back into Cygnet. U15s are allowed to ride one lap of the ‘Hell of the South’ loop (32km), while U17s are allowed to ride the full ‘Hell of the South’ race. If you wish to enter either of these two options, please enter using the Hell of the South link here. Community Ride We have setup the community ride as a way of celebrating bikes in Cygnet. We want to see kids and families take over Mary st and parade down Cygnet Coast road towards the sailing club. This ride is free to help all people join us in celebrating riding bikes, however it is compulsory to sign up so that you are covered under our insurance.
